Tooth decay is caused by a chemical reaction between the sugars we consume and the plaque bacteria present in our mouths. This reaction creates erosive acids that soften our tooth enamel, leading to the formation of cavities.
If you are experiencing symptoms of tooth decay such as a toothache, you will first have your teeth examined and possibly x-rayed to determine its extent.
Your dentist will apply a local anaesthetic to numb the affected tooth and remove decay. They will then clean and disinfect the tooth before applying a composite filling to repair the cavity.
We use a durable and cosmetically pleasing amalgam-free tooth-coloured filling material, which utilises a mix of powdered glass and acrylic resin to provide a seamless finish.
If you are undergoing fillings regularly, talk to your dentist about preventative care. With a proper treatment plan in place, you’ll be less likely to need restorative procedures in the future.
